First Sport Climbing Competition of Union Territory on Nov 16

JAMMU, Nov 7: The first Sport Climbing Competition of Union Territory of J&K will be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K on November 16 in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here.
Over 200 climbers from various districts of the Union Territory of J&K are likely to vie for honors in the competition which may extend to the next day in case the competitions are not completed on the first day.
The competitions to be conducted on the 40ft high fiber glass Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus will be held in Lead climbing only in seven categories of Women (born in 2002 and earlier), Boys and Girls (born in 2003, 2004 and 2005), Sub Junior Boys and Girls (born in 2006 and 2007) and Mini Boys and Girls (born in 2008 and after).
The competition will be organized under the overall supervision of General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria who is also Secretary Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
Abhimanyu Sherpa, a pioneer sport climber of J&K will be the Organizing Secretary of the Competition, Manik Slathia and Shashi Kant Sharma, trained Belayers and Mrityunjay Sharma and Shilpa Charak, both international sport climbers, will be the Route Setters-cum-belayers of the competition. Other technical officials include Sakshi Magotra, Deepika Dutta, both local judges, Sonam Sidharth, Vishali Sharma, Sunil Chakharia, Sourav Deep Singh, Sahil Khajuria and Narinder Singh, a senior mountaineer.
The winners of this competition are likely to be selected for participation in the forthcoming North Zone Sport Climbing competition to be organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee during November/ December, 2019.
