SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Peoples conference senior vice president and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil expressed serious concern over massive damage caused to apple and other agricultural produce due to the snowfall across Kashmir Valley.
In a statement, Vakil said the heavy snowfall has caused damage to fruit trees in orchards causing anxiety among apple growers due to massive losses inflicted on their apple harvest and apple trees.
He stressed upon the Lt. Governor  and Central Government to intervene and undertake immediate assessment and adequate compensation of losses of fruit orchards suffered due to heavy snowfall.
Vakil said the fruit harvesting season is at the last stage at this juncture in the Kashmir valley and trees are yet to be naturally exfoliated, snowfall has marred apple clip and caused immense damage to trees whose branches have shattered which would adversely affect the apple production in future.
He added that apple growing is the main source of economy in the valley especially in Kupwara, Rafiabad, Sopore, Zangir and Shopian in South Kashmir and the snowfall has inflicted maximum damage to the growers.
