Dogri Folk Songs, other cultural items enthral Jammuites

JAMMU, Nov 23: On the second day of ongoing Purvottar Dhara- a festival featuring artists from northeast and other regions, the artists from Meghalaya, Jammu, Mizoram, Assam and Tripura enthralled audiences with their scintillating performances.
Organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the festival is an effort to connect the folks of Jammu and Kashmir with the diverse range of music and dances of other parts of the country especially north east regions of India.
The programme was started with the performance of Romalo Ram and Group in which the group presented Geetru which is a folk form of the Jammu hills. Geetru is a traditional narrative song-dance form in which the lead singer also performs some dance steps and at times also uses the theatrical devices as well.
The programme was followed by the presentation of Geetanjali Dance Academy, Meghalaya-Devi-The Triumph mesmerised the audiences which began with hymns glorifying the prowess of the most powerful forms of the Goddess from Durga to Kali to Kamakhya.
The third performance of the second day of Purvottar Dhara witnessed the mind blowing performance of Sattriya Kendra, Assam which presented Sattriya Dance. Nritya Chanda and Uma Rudra Sambad showcased by them for the folks of Jammuites.
This performance was followed by yet another performance by C. Lalrikinga & group from Mizoram in which they presented a magnificent two performances viz. Sarlamkai and Chheih of Cheraw folk dance in the city of temples.
At the end of the day 2, of Purvottar Dhara, Hojagiri Dance was presented in front of the august audiences.
