JAMMU, Nov 26: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the premier trekking organization of J&K, in cooperation with Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority J&K is organizing a series of short treks (adventure picnics) in Surinsar- Mansar-Mohoregarh area.
In this process, a group of trekkers comprising of 135 students of of Shiksha Niketan Schools, Jeevan Nagar and Gandhi Nagar, Jammu participated in the programme.
Ram Khajuria, President of Tawi Trekkers J&K led the group of budding trekkers along with trained mountaineers Sonam Sidharth, Sakshi Magotra, Rahul Khajuria and Abhimanyu Sherpa.
Eleven teachers of the school namely Harish Sharma, Sudershan Singh, Veena Gupta, Prabhjot Kour, Shivani Jamwal, Karan Singh, Pankaj Pathania, Sanjeet Singh, Mehak Kohli, Satinder Kour and Anuradha also accompanied the group.
During the day long venture the young adventurers in the age group of 11 to 15 years first visited the beautiful Surinsar lake where they were taught about the origin of the Lake vis-a-vis the origin of the Himalaya. They were happy to learn that Surinsar lake has the unique distinction of having a particular specie of turtles which is found only in this lake on this planet. Having learnt about the faunae and flora of the area the trekkers proceeded to Mansar, the next destination.
At Mansar they visited the local zoo, maintained by the department of Wild Life Protection, where they saw many beautiful birds and wild animals and learnt about their habitat and their behavior.
Finally, they enjoyed the main attraction, a short trek of about 6kms in the Mansar- MohoreGarh area and were thrilled to have a panoramic view of the serene lake and the Mother Nature at its best.
The aim of Series of short treks in which about 4000 boys and girls are expected to participate is to “Catch them young” and imbibe in the young minds a spirit of adventure, love for nature and above all a supreme sense of self confidence so as to mould them into bold and responsible future leaders/ builders of the country.
