JAMMU, Dec 3: Teams of Drug Control officers conducted surprise raids of establishments stocking cosmetic products for sale and lifted samples for testing.
The exercise was targeted to evaluate the quality of cosmetic products being offered for sale in Jammu district. The officers lifted samples of soaps, shampoos, moisturisers, fairness creams, tooth pastes, deodorants, lipsticks, cold creams, hair spa creams and have sent the samples for testing and evaluation to Regional Testing Laboratories functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India.
These laboratories have been designated to test these cosmetics in terms of order issued on IST June 2018 and are duly accredited by National Accreditation Bodies of Laboratories (NABL).
Around 21 statutory samples of cosmetics have been lifted during the surprise exercise. The team constituted by State Drugs Controller J&K Lotika Khajuria was supervised by Farida Parveen (Assistant Controller Drugs, Jammu). The reports of testing / analysis of Cosmetics shall provide material evidence to initiate legal action against violators if any under the relevant regulation.
Pertinent to mention here that recently various samples of medical devices were also lifted and sent to Central Drug Testing Laboratories for analysis.
This exercise was necessitated amidst concerns of safety, effectiveness and quality of cosmetics available in the market. The Department has asked the trading fraternity to purchase Cosmetics manufactured by licensed manufacturing units or imported under a valid import license.
