Sports Council initiates construction work on much needed infra

JAMMU, Mar 19: J&K State Sports Council after a comprehensive tendering process has initiated the construction work on the much needed sports infrastructure in the State, especially in this region from January this year and the completion of the all four projects taken by it is expected by January 2014.
Sources said that the Council has started the development work of the four big sports projects in Jammu which included new Indoor Complex at MA Stadium Jammu, Pavilion at Kabaddi Ground near MA Stadium, Skating Rink at MA Stadium and Pavilion at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, Jammu.
According to reliable sources, a double storey Rs 7-crore project of Indoor Complex at MA Stadium is expected to be completed by January 2014.
The Complex possesses 44×29 meters multipurpose hall, 18×20 meters fencing hall, 14×8 meters two indoor games halls, besides office room, VIP room and the meeting hall at the ground floor, while the first floor has 18×22 meters judo/karate hall, 16×8 meters conference hall, besides VIP rooms and toilet blocks at the first floor.
“This Complex would cater to the needs of the players of many medal winning sports disciplines including priority games and gymnastics, wushu, fencing, judo, taekwondo are a few to name,” said an official of State Sports Council.
The construction work of pavilion for Kabaddi Ground at MA Stadium is also in progress and the project is expected to be completed within three months.
“This 32 lakh project of pavilion will go a long way in helping the players of ‘desi’ game to hone their skill in comfortable atmosphere. Otherwise, the players and officials faced many problems in absence of pavilion. The female athletes, in particular were uncomfortable without toilets and allied facilities at the venue,” said a former national kabaddi player while expressing ecstatic feeling over the construction work.
The construction of pavilion at KK Hakhu Stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 1.25 crore will add feather to this asset in the State. The pavilion comprises of separate change rooms for boys and girls, a manager room, VIP room, a meeting hall, besides kitchen, store and allied facilities.
As per the sources, the project will be completed in 9 months from now onwards.
Moreover, the establishment of Bank Track for the skaters of the medal winning sports discipline, the construction work of which has already been initiated was the need of the hour as the budding skaters were left in the lurch in the absence of the proper infrastructure. The completion of the Rink is expected in six month’s time.
The Bank Track, though is smaller by 60 meters than the standard track of 200 meters, is yet the best in the available area.
It is pertinent to mention here that the development of this sports infrastructure in the State which is striving hard to carve space on the Country’s Sports Map, will go a long way in helping the talented sportspersons to hone their skill in a congenial atmosphere and standard facilities, to win more and more medals for the State.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Secretary State Sports Council, Dalip Thussu attributed the initiative of building sports infrastructure by the State Government to the keenness of the Minister for Sports, Taj-Mohi-Din in promoting sports and games in the State.
