SAMBA, Dec 10: There are no takers for Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Samba as heaps of garbage are lying scattered every where in the town with Samba Municipal Committee looking as a mute spectator.
The much talked about PM’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan proved a non starter in the town as no body showed any interest in cleaning the town of Samba with the result the filth and garbage not only lies scattered every where but it has caused health hazards and people apprehend spread of epidemic in case the immediate steps of cleaning the town are not taken by the authorities.
Samba people said the dirty water coming out of the district hospital flows on the Jammu -Pathankot National Highway and there are cess pools of water along the Highway but no one in administration takes cognizance of the same.
The effluents coming out of hospital and chemical industries which are not scientifically and properly treated can spread epidemic in the area and this is a cause of concern for the common masses of the town. People alleged that till date, neither the district administration and the Samba Municipality has not taken any concrete step to ensure proper arrangement of this toxic and dirty water which flows through the main road.
Social activist Neelam Singh Sambyal, while talking to this reporter said Samba Municipality has not paid any attention to this problem till date. This revels the functioning of the Municipality of Samba, which is responsible to maintain the city and its cleanliness.
People of Samba have appealed to the Samba Municipal Committee and Health Department that this dirty water of the hospital should not come on the National Highway.
