LEH, Dec 14: Demanding 6th Schedule for Ladakh region, students’ organizations of Leh district under the banner of Students’ Organization of Unified Ladakh (SOUL) have been sitting on hunger strike for last three days.
Braving the prevailing bone chilling cold in the region with minus 14 degree temperature, students continued to stay on protest hunger strike for the third consecutive day in a tented accommodation at Old Bus Stand in the freezing cold.
Responding to a query, SOUL president Rigzin Dorjay said that they have four demands which includes Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal should raise the demand for 6th schedule in parliament, secondly MP should come and explain the student why he did not raise the issue in parliament, thirdly Interim safeguard should be given to Ladakh till next parliament session and fourthly student delegation from Leh should be allowed to meet Prime Minister or Home Minister to explain their concern for future Ladakh.
Students said that number of civil society representative including religious leaders, political representative came to meet them. However, students said that they too should have joined the protest for the demand to safeguard the future of Ladakh.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar also visited the students. Students also said that no representative from Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development council visited them to ask about their problems, which has hurt them the most.
