JAMMU, Dec 23: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Chander Mohan Gupta today laid the foundation stone of lairage building at Bhagwati Nagar here.
A handout of JMC stated that when completed the building shall provide facility for resting the sheep and goat before their onward transportation to abattoirs.
In the Lairage animals will be segregated by rejecting the sick ones and only medically fit animals after proper examination shall be sent for slaughter so that only ‘fit for consumption’ meat remains available in the market for consumers.
The handout further said that the resting animals shall be kept under modern facilities without subjecting them to cruelty. The animal wastes shall be used for the production of biogas and vermin-compost.
The Lairage will have the capacity to accommodate 1000 sheep and goat and will be completed at the cost of Rs. 1.24 crore with time period of four months.
