JAMMU, Dec 24: Inspector General of Police Armed/IRP Jammu Zone, Danish Rana inaugurated the AOI Christmas T20 Cricket Championship in an impressive, colourful and well attended function, here.
The chief guest was accompanied by Fr Kuriakose, President Christian Fellowship Trust Jammu; Yudhveer Sethi, Sr BJP Leader; Ramesh Kotwal SSP APCR Jammu, Rajesh Gill, President Christian Sports Organisation, Vinay Sharma SP South Jammu, Sujeet Khare AGM Marketing AOI, Roopesh Choudhary Unit head Operations AOI, Anju Gupta ZPEO Gandhi Nagar, Vijay Saberwal President Parade Sports Association, Pastor Robin, Asif Gill, Sunny Gill and David Mattoo.
Chief guest while speaking on the occasion said that Christmas is a festival of happiness and sports and games are the best medium to celebrate it.
He lauded the efforts of Christian Fellowship Trust and Christian Sports Organization for holding 7th edition of Christmas T20 Championship by involving youth and budding male and female sportspersons in the event.
Fr Kuriakose while speaking on the occasion shared the message of Jesus Christ “To live united with great peace”.
Yudhveer Sethi also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier the welcome address and brief report of the Championship was presented by Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy Player and Organising Secretary of the event, while famous anchor Justina Victor conducted the proceedings of the inauguratal function.
In the opening match, AOI/Ascoms defeated Media Eleven by 7 wickets.
Batting first, Media Eleven scored 105 runs in 16.5 overs. Akshay top scored with 29 runs, while Sahil and Sunil Bali contributed 24 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Owais took 4 wickets, Qadir bagged 3 and Kalam claimed 2 wickets.
In reply, AOI/Ascoms eleven chased the target by losing 3 wickets to win the match by 7 wickets. Farhad top scored with 47 runs. From bowling side, Akshay took 3 wickets. Farhad was adjudged as the man of the match.
In Girls section, Angels Cricket Club defeated Jammu Cricket Club in an easy contest.
Batting first, Angel CC scored 86 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 10 overs. Rubia top scored with 25 runs, while Sanjana and Jaspreet contributed 17 and 15 runs respectively. From bowling side, Somaya and Pushpa took 1 wicket each.
In reply, Jammu Cricket Club managed to score 63 runs with Sonika (28) and Sonimika (21). Shelly took 1 wicket.
In another match of Under-12 boys, GSI defeated Game Changer in an easy contest.
