JAMMU, Dec 29: Public Opinion Forum (POF), a non-political social organization has extended its support to the Government over CAA, NRC, NPR and any other such law that strengthens India.
In a meeting of the Forum held here today, the members discussed the current situation in the country that has emerged after government’s decision to go for CAA. The members expressed shock over the negativity being spread by mainstream political parties on this issue.
Various speakers came down heavily on political parties and leaders supporting fundamentalists, rioters and other anti-social and anti-national elements in the name of democracy. They opined that country needed such legislation long back to check infiltration and illegal immigration but successive Governments miserably failed to provide for any such legislation. Every country in the world, has similar laws and no country can afford to be docile in matters of citizenship laws especially in the wake of global radicalization and terrorism. India being a soft target for terror attacks, needs to have a much strict laws governing citizenship, they added.
Members of the POF expressed their concern over violent protests led by politicians, academicians and students and demanded stern action against all those involved in violence and damaging public property. The country cannot afford to have such law and order situation especially when the Government is trying hard to bring foreign investments amid global economic slowdown. The members appealed all the concerned to educate themselves about the amendments and don’t believe in misinterpretations being spread by those working against the national interests.
Parveen Sharma, president of the POF congratulated the Government for bringing such amendments in citizenship laws that will ensure justice to the persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries. He said that those protesting against these amendments have lost public face on all counts.
The members also adopted a resolution supporting the Government over CAA and further demanded a fool-proof mechanism to not only check illegal immigration in the future, but also to have a proper NPR.
