Villagers continue protest against polluting units, submit memorandum to DC

UDHAMPUR, Dec 30: For the second consecutive day on Monday, locals of village Battal Balian continued their protest against the polluting industrial units of Cement and pesticides in the Industrial Area and held a strong demonstration.
The protesting villagers also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla, who assured necessary action against the polluting industries.
Earlier, the protesting people assembled near the DC office and held a demonstration amidst raising of slogans against District Administration and the Department of Industries. They lamented that around 15 units of cement and pesticides are polluting atmosphere of the area, which houses more than 15000 population, several schools and others institutions.
The matter was taken up with the authorities during the Back to Village programmes but no action was taken till date.
Those who addressed the gathering, included Sarpanch Ballian Man Mohan Raina, Sarpanch Kharuni Puran Chand, Master Suram Chand, Panch Kuldeep Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Ex Panch Gurdeal, Naib Sarpanch Kharuni Makund Lal, Fateh Singh, Pritam Chand, Keham Raj Lambardar, Inder Singh, Om Parkash Sharma and Bakil Singh.
