SSCB lifts overall trophy; J&K runners-up in Sanda event
*J&K’s Rajinder becomes National champ

JAMMU, Dec 30: It brings me an ecstatic rather blissful feeling to see Jammu and Kashmir becoming a sporting hub and the sportspersons of the Union Territory carving a space on the country’s sports map.
This was stated by Farooq Khan, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, J&K during the closing ceremony of the 28th Senior National Wushu Championship, organised by Wushu Association of J&K at New Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Mr Khan said that he witnessed three mega events hosted by Jammu from last one month, which included the National Level Table Tennis event, All India level Volleyball Championship and now this Senior National Wushu Championship.
Lavishing praise on National Champion Rajinder Singh, Farooq Khan said that it was heartening to see players from J&K blossoming at the National and International scene.
He congratulated the World champion Praveen and other Wushu medallists along with National Chief Coach of India, Kuldeep Handoo for bringing laurels to the UT and to the country as well.
Mr Khan said the Union Government, under its dynamic Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is committed to promote sports culture and raise infrastructural facilities in the country, adding that Jammu and Kashmir is taking leaf from Prime Minister’s book and leaving no stone unturned in improving the standard of sports and promoting sportspersons in the Union Territory.
While Mr Khan was the chief guest on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K was the guest of honour. Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, DG Sports, Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary, Secretary J&K Sports Council and Ranjeet Kalra, Ace Sports Administrator and Member BCCI were the special guests.
Vijay Saraf, President Wushu Association of India thanked the chief guest for the encouragement and appreciation.
He also threw light on the achievements of J&K Wushu Association.
He also thanked J&K Sports Council, J&K Tourism Department, J&K Excise Department and J&K Police for immense support.
Services team remained overall Champions, while J&K team remained runners-up in Sanda event and All India Police bagged the 3rd spot.
In Taolu event, Services emerged winner whereas Manipur and MP shared 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
The J&K team secured 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in the championship.
Rajinder Singh World Bronze medalists, Haqeek Agmed and Riya Chib secured Gold medals.
Prominent among other dignitaries present on the occasion were Suhel Ahmed, General Secretary Wushu Association of India; DC Excise Department; Ravi Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Satish Gupta, Manager Indoor Stadium; besides Bhavneet, Ajay Paul Gill, Vivek Bassan, Atul Pangotra and Rajiv Dogra.
The proceedings of the closing function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer Physical Education and commentator.
