All India Inter-University Fencing C’ship

JAMMU, Jan 1: The strong team of famous Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) today retained the overall championship trophy by securing highest 34 points in the All India Inter-University Fencing (Men) Championship which was organised by the University of Jammu, under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), here.
With equal 11 points each in their respective accounts, BR Ambedkar University Aurangabad and Shivaji University Kolhapur claimed second and third spot respectively.
Advisor to the Lt. Governor, Farooq Khan was the chief guest, who honoured the fencers and awarded the title trophies and other individual prizes to the winners, while Vice Chancellor, JU, Prof Manoj K. Dhar presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Farooq Khan congratulated the organizers for holding the Championship in a befitting manner and appreciated the mass participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams from various Universities.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Dhar while congratulating the winners said that sports activities help in channelizing the energy of the youth in a positive direction.
Earlier, Director, Sports and Physical Education, JU, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba presented the report of the event. He disclosed that around 600 fencers, representing 63 teams from the various Universities across the country, took part in this event.
