JAMMU, Jan 1: Rotary Club of Jammu Tawi and Citizens of Jammu today honoured son of soil, Farooq Khan (Advisor to Lt Governor J&K) in a grand function held at Jammu.
Presenting welcome address, Ashok Gupta (former IGP) delineated the profile of Farooq Khan as a professional policeman who volunteered to fight militancy as Head of Special Operations Group to break backbone of militancy in J&K.
Former police chief, Kuldeep Khoda and Dr Ashok Bhan (former DGP) described in detail how Farooq Khan faced various challenges of militancy, law and order, and tough public importance cases of organized crime.
Speakers from all walks of life acknowledged the achievements of Farooq Khan in his service career and hoped that the present UT administration, in which he is Advisor to LG, will now ensure stabilization of situation, permanent peace and all round development of our area.
Other speakers included KB Jandial (IAS), Rakesh Gupta (president, Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Abhinav Sharma (president, Bar Association), BS Slathia (former president of Bar Association) and Rotarians Raman Sherpuri and Dr Dushyant Choudhary.
Rotarian Ashish Langer read out a message on behalf of Rotary Governor District 3070, Sunil Nagpal, honouring the Advisor, who distributed two wheel chairs to specially-abled persons on the occasion. Shreyansh Jain of Vichar Manch read out a poem in honour of Farooq Khan.
In his address, Farooq Khan appreciated the role of Rotary in its Philanthropic activities and assured full cooperation of the Government in social activities of Rotary. He asked Dr Dushyant Choudhary, District Governor of Rotary District 3070 to come up with the projects where Rotary and Government can work collectively to remove hunger, illiteracy, disease and conflict in our UT. Khan was honoured by the citizens by presenting a shawl.
Prominent citizens included former ADG Madan Lal, PK Gupta (retired IGP), Ravinder Kotwal (retired IGP), Dr Saleem (Director General, Youth Services and Sports), Dr RS Chib (Director Floriculture), Mir (Secretary, Cooperatives), KK Gupta (retired Chief Engineer), Vinod Gupta (retired Chief Engineer), Sahil Jandyal (SDM Mendhar), presidents of all Rotary Clubs of Jammu and prominent Rotarians from all over Jammu province.
