JAMMU, Mar 22: Erstwhile Doda Migrants’ bid to take out a protest rally from Press Club towards Civil Secretariat to gherao it in order to pressurize the Government to meet their pending demands, was foiled by the Police at Dogra Chowk, here today due to heavy deployment of police.
Earlier, a large crowd of Doda Migrants gathered at Press Club at about 1pm and under the leadership of Chairman, Erstwhile Doda Migrants Committee (EDMC), Rakesh Kumar Sharma and general secretary, Som Nath, took a out a protest rally but due to heavy deployment of police force at Dogra Chowk, the rally could not move forward.
The protestors carrying hoardings and placards raised anti-Government slogans for not fulfilling their demands.
Addressing the protestors at Dogra Chowk, Rakesh Kumar Sharma said that Doda migrants have been sitting on dharna for last eight years to get their demands redressed from the Government, but due to the indifferent attitude of the Government they are languishing in different parts of the State as homeless.
Som Nath stated that the verification of about 251 families of Doda Migrants had been conducted as per the norms of Relief Organisation since long back and their files completed in all respects are lying with the Relief Orgainsation, but till now even a single file has not been cleared for the reasons best known to the concerned department.
He also demanded to treat Doda migrants at par with the Kashmiri migrants and accordingly pay relief to them, as they are also the State subjects of J&K and citizens of India.
He also urged Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Minister of State for Relief and Rehabilitation, to give humane treatment to Doda migrants by registering the pending 251 families as migrants.
