As per the directions of the High Court, there is a blanket ban on any form of construction in Gulmarg, and no construction material should be allowed beyond a certain point from Tangmarg.

The residents of Tehsil Karhama, Gonipora alleged that the SDM and the Patwari are forcing them to sell their lands to the parties that are intending to construct shopping complexes and other commercial structures in the area
A few days ago, a protest was held by the locals of these areas in the Press Colony also highlighted the highhandedness of these two officials-Shabir Ul Hassan (SDM) and Bashir Ahmad (Pathwari)-who are subjecting the residents who have got land on the designated spots to mental as well as physical agony.
“If we don’t have to sell our land, nobody can force us for the same; there is no point in sending people to us forcing people to sell land,” a local said.
“These officials are encouraging the land mafias in the area and are trying to facilitate the process of selling off every inch of suitable land in the areas to the mafias, who then sell the land to those who are intending to construct various structures,” they alleged.
