JAMMU, Jan 14: Continuing her brilliance in winning medals at the National and International scene, Shreya Gupta, a class 10th student of Presentation Convent school Jammu brought laurels to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by securing Individual Gold in ongoing 16th Cadet (U-17) National Fencing Championship being held at Hyderabad from January 13 to January 15, 2020.
By achieving Gold, Shreya has created history in Fencing Nationals by claiming three consecutive National Cadet Championship titles and thus securing a hat-trick. She is also the title holder of last two National championships in this category.
On the journey to her third title in a row, in the quarterfinals, Shreya defeated Priyu V. of Kerala by 15-7, while in a nail biting finish Shreya defeated Shruti Joshi of Maharashtra by 15-14 and in the final, she comprehensively Kashish Bharad of Maharashtra by 15-10.
Therefore, she maintained her supremacy in the game with losing a single game.
Shreya is also the current National Junior (Under-19) Fencing Champion as she won the First Gold medal for newly formed UT of Jammu and Kashmir at National Fencing Championship held at Bhopal in November 2019.
By winning the individual gold medal Shreya has qualified for the upcoming International events like Asian Championships and World Championships both in Junior and Cadet Category to be held in 2020.
