JAMMU, Jan 22: Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs and former President Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Anurag Thakur visited the upgraded Maulana Azad Stadium to review the facilities, here today.
The Union Minister was accompanied by Ravinder Raina, BJP President J&K and other dignitaries on the occasion.
The sporting facility which was recently inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor, GC Murmu has been refurbished as an exclusive cricket stadium under the Prime Ministers Special Development Programme.
After reviewing the upgraded facility, the Minister was given an architectural design presentation of the renovated complex by the officials of the NPCC, the executing agency for up-gradation of the project. The former BCCI President, Mr Thakur, who has the honour of developing a galaxy of Cricket Stadiums in Himachal Pradesh including the world famous Dharamshala Stadium, on this occasion suggested certain infrastructural additions to this sports complex.
“There is sea change in this Stadium than that I saw last time. The upgraded facilities will surely benefit the cricketing fraternity of the Union Territory,” said Mr Thakur.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mr Thakur while interacting with the media persons on the other day had supported the idea of hosting an international cricket match in Jammu.
Thakur’s statement was later also welcomed by Farooq Khan, Advisor to the Lt Governor, who is also holding the charge of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, CEO JKCA; Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary, Secretary, J&K Sports Council; Ranjeet Kalra, ace Sports Administrator; Amritpal Singh, SP North; Ravi Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu; Advocate Parimoksh Seth, Ajay Pargal and Ishan Sharma were also present on the occasion.
