JAMMU, Jan 31: After scoring superb 87 runs in the first innings, Goa’s opening batsman Ishaan Gadekar scored brilliant unbeaten 187 runs in the second essay, to put his side in command after conceding narrow first innings lead 25 runs to Jammu and Kashmir in the CK Nayudu Under-23 Tournament at Sanguem Stadium, Goa.
Gadekar hit 19 fours and 3 sixes in his 305-ball knock.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 88/3, Goa rode on Gadekar’s brilliance to score a good total of 357 runs and set a target of 233 runs for Jammu and Kashmir. VG Kahlon (54) and Deepraj Gaonkar (46) were the other major contributors. From J&K, Lone Nasir Muzaffar, skipper Vivrant Sharma and Sunil Kumar took 2 wickets each, while Trag Jahid Nazir and Imtiyaz Ahmed Ganie claimed 1 wicket each.
Chasing a target of 333 runs, J&K were 41/1 in their second innings at the draw of stumps on day-3 today. Abhishant Bakshi (27) and Vivrant (3) were at the crease. Sufiyaan was the batsman to be dismissed for (11) runs. Balpreet Singh took the lone wicket to fall.
With a day’s game left in the match and J&K still needing 292 runs for victory, the batsmen will have to pull their socks to either chase the total or earn 3 points by virtue of first innings lead.
At this juncture, one gets a feeling that the match is 65-35 in favour of Goa. However, cricket being the game of glorious uncertainties, nothing can be said unless and until the last ball is bowled.
