SRINAGAR, Mar 26: Seven police men including a Station House Officer were injured when an explosive device went off inside Parimpora Police Station in Srinagar this afternoon.
A police spokesman said here that during deactivation of a hand grenade, recovered in March 13 Bemina Fidayeen attack, by bomb disposal squad at Police Station Parimpora, the fuse exploded in the hand of BD squad personnel injuring 7 police men.
The injured include SHO of Police Station Parimpora, Inspector Ghulam Mohiddin, Sub-Inspector Suhail Mushtaq, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Subhan, Head Constable Mohammad Shafi, Head Constable Manzoor Ahmad, Constable Shabir Ahmad and Constable Sayar Ahmad.
They were immediately removed to nearby SKIMS hospital Bemina. All of them are out of danger.
In the meantime, mysterious death of a man in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today sparked off protests and police had to resort to baton charging and tear smoke shelling to disperse them during which around a dozen persons including Assistant Development Commissioner and six police men were injured.
Police fired tear smoke and charged batons on protesters who were protesting against the mysterious death of Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Samad Dar. Around one dozen persons including Assistant Development Commissioner Anantnag, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, and six police men were injured in the stone pelting and protests.
A Police spokesman said that police recovered dead body of one Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Samad Dar resident of Munghal near Railway track Munghal, Anantnag today.
The spokesman said that after taking cognizance, Police have started inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC in the incident. “Postmortem has been conducted on the body and handed over to his legal heirs. According to the preliminary investigation, no mark of violence has been found on his body”, police added.
The spokesman said that after handing over the dead body, some miscreants tried to create a situation which was dealt with maximum restraint. “In the stone pelting six Policemen including a civil administration officer were injured”, he added.
Reports said that police and CRPF came under stone pelting outside the Anantang hospital after the body was handed over to his relatives for last rites. They were protesting against mysterious death of Dar. The hospital staff of Anantnag district hospital alleged that police beat up staff and doctors of the hospital during the protests.
Residents of Monghal area alleged that police arrested four youth from Monghal- Mashooq Ahmed Magray, Bilal Ahmed Dar, Tariq Ahmed Sofi and Imran Majid yesterday. But police denied Bilal’s arrest.
