Thrilling wins take NCC, Road Safety XI to finals

JAMMU, Feb 12: Thrilling victories over their rivals in the semifinals took the formidable sides of National Cricket Club and Road Safety XI to the finals of the ongoing Inter-Panchayat/Block Level Cricket Tournament, being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with J&K Sports Council at Parade ground, here today.
The tournament is being held under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, while DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma is the Organising Secretary of the event and the matches are being supervised by senior cricket coaches of J&K Sports Council-Naveen Sharma and Randhir Singh.
In the first match, National Cricket Club got the better of Simula Cricket Club in an exciting contest by 2 runs.
Batting first, NCC scored 163 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Kanaihya Wadhawan top scored with 50 runs, while Vijay Dogra contributed 25 runs to the total. Akash Chowdhary and Kuldeep Kumar took 2 wickets each from Simula Club.
In reply, Simula CC fell short of just 2 runs, scoring 161 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Raman Dutta top scored with 40 runs, while Puneet Kumar contributed 33 runs to the total. From NCC, Tanmay Slathia and Umran captured 3 wickets each. Kanaihya Wadhawan was declared as the man of the match.
In another semifinal, Road Safety XI defeated Vishal Cricket Club by a narrow margin of 7 runs.
Batting first, Road Safety XI scored 128 runs. Pankaj Ladda top scored with 38 runs, while Maqsood contributed 32 runs to the total. Raman took 4 wickets, while Jatinder Pal claimed 1 wicket for Vishal Cricket Club.
In reply, Vishal Cricket Club scored 121 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Ajit Singh top scored with 48 runs, while Amrit Pal contributed 31 runs to the total. From Road Safety XI, Arif and Rompy bagged 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Arif was declared as the man of the match.
According to the organisers, the final match will be played from 11 am at the same venue tomorrow.
