JKARS procures sports equipment worth lakhs

Srinagar, Feb 17: Principal Secretary, Education and Technical Education Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary today said that Government was aiming to take remarkable steps in boosting water sports across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to athletes during a ceremony at Banquet Hall, Srinagar, Choudhary said that Jammu and Kashmir has a tremendous potential in water sports and Government was taking every possible step to boost this sport.
For the first time in the history of J&K, Association for Rowing & Sculling (JKARS) procured equipments worth lakhs of rupees under the leadership of Mr Choudhary, who is also President of JKARS.
The function was attended by all the district presidents and members of JKARS who hailed the meticulous efforts of Navin Kumar who himself raised funds through sponsorships for the procurement of water sports equipments.
JKARS is the first sports association in J&K which has so far availed funds of its own for procurement of equipments and sponsorships for team J&K for upcoming national event.
On the occasion it was decided that J&K would be hosting its first ever indoor national rowing championship soon.
While talking to reporters regarding the future road map for promotion of water sports in J&K, Mr Choudhary stressed on the need to create platform for youth in every district of J&K state and involve them in water sports.
While assuring all sincere efforts to make J&K an international arena for water sports Mr Navin K Choudhary IAS said, “Through public donations, J&K is taking a big step in promotion of water sports and has already sanctioned for the procurement of water sports equipment worth seven crore rupees through government which would be delivered very soon.”
“J&K is blessed with natural water resources and has potential to provide opportunities for local youth who are bestowed with enormous natural talent and liking for water sports. So far J&K has produced six international players in water sport,” he said.
Water Sports Expert and Chief Coach of India, Bilquis Mir was prominent among others present on the occasion.
