JAMMU, Mar 31: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today inaugurated 200-car parking lot near Shamshan Ghat at Shastri Nagar, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.17 crore.
Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, the Minister said that with the dedication of the parking lot to the people, the traffic congestion on Shastri Nagar-Sanjay Nagar road would be reduced besides difficulties of those people who come at Cremation Ground at Shastri Nagar has been solved to a large extent. He said the car parking lot has been developed by Economic Reconstruction Agency and Public Works Department jointly involving about 2500 sq feet area. He said on its completion, the long pending demand of the people of the area has been redressed.
The Minister said that vision of the present Government was to provide all basic amenities to the people like safe drinking water, road connectivity, power, healthcare, education besides better lanes and drains at their doorsteps. He said Government is committed to ensure time bound completion of all newly launched development projects being executed under ERA, R&B and JMC sectors so that all sections of the society could enjoy their lives with improved basic amenities. He said Central and State Governments have provided liberal funding for developing J&K as model State of the country.
For improving the power scenario in Shastri Nagar and its adjoining areas, Mr. Bhalla said a 10 MVA receiving station at Shastri Nagar involving cost Rs. 3.5 crore is nearing completion. He said all the allied works of 6-lane Kujwani-Satwari road have been completed including construction of 11-culverts, adding macadamization of the road is under progress on war-footing.
Earlier, the Minister also laid foundation stone for face lifting of Swarag Ashram (Cremation Ground) at Shastri Nagar, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 2.55 crore for remodeling of waiting shed, cremation shed, drinking water reservoir, refrigerator, lights, compound wall and entry gate besides fixation of floor tiles in the premises.
Seeking public cooperation, the Minister called upon people to keep a watch on the implementation of Government sponsored schemes under development sectors for better results on the ground.
Later, Mr. Bhalla visited Chatha Pind and conducted public grievances redressal camp.
Responding to the demand of rural areas, the Minister asked the Power Development Department officers to immediately install the poles and transmission lines in uncovered areas of the villages. He also issued instructions for increase the height of installed poles and replacement of worn-out wires to avoid the untoward incident.
For renovation of lanes and drains, the Minister directed the Rural Development Department to start the upgradation work under MG-NREGA. He said that Government was committed to provide all basic amenities to the people of rural pockets at par with urban centres, adding that various development projects have been initiated to facilitate the people. He said that Government is committed to develop all the three regions of the state with modern facilities.
