LEH, May 15: Moravian Mission School Leh defeated Mahabodhi Residential School Choglamsar by four goals to two (4-2) in the handball final and clinched the title trophy in the Inter-School Tournament of district Leh, which concluded at Government Higher Secondary School Chuchor Shamma, here today.
Addressing the closing function, Executive Councilor (EC) for Youth Services & Sports Gh Abbass Abidi who was chief guest on the occasion praised all the participating students for showing high spirit and enthusiasm for sports. Talking about the importance of sports at school level which is the first platform to build career in sports at State, National and International level, the EC urged upon the students to take sports seriously in their day to day activities.
In order to provide the students of Government Higher Secondary School Chuchot Shamma with better play ground for organizing such tournaments in coming years, the Executive Councilor instructed the District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Leh, to prepare a plan under ‘Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), a centrally sponsored scheme through which 90% of the fund is provided by the Central Government.
Earlier, District Youth Services & Spots Officer, Leh, Abdul Rashid, appraised the gathering in detail about the 5 days tournament. In the tournament more than 450 boys and girls students of 18 High Schools of Leh block including some private schools participated.
Later, the chief guest distributed trophies and medals to the winners and runners-up teams.
