Advisor reviews preparedness for PM Gharib Kalyan Package

LEH, Apr 1: Advisor Umang Narula convened a meeting to review the preparedness of banks for transfer of various benefits announced under the Pradhan Mantri Gharib Kalyan Pacakge. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Finance Rigzin Samphael and Zonal Head J&K Bank, Tsewang Dorjai. Dorjay Motup, convenor UT Level Bankers Committee also participated in the meeting over telephone.
Commissioner Secretary Finance informed that Government of India has announced Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna to mitigate the sufferings of poorest of the poor under which cash transfers will be made to the beneficiaries of PM Kisan Yojna and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna women account holders. Besides this, Direct Benefit Transfers will also be made as a support to senior citizens, widows and Divyang.
The Convener UTLBC informed that Ladakh has 19,891 PMJDY account holders and 13,412 PM Kissan accounts. The Zonal Head J&K Bank stated that J&K Bank has 14,741 PMJDY account holders, out of which 8,642 are women. He also informed that J&K Bank has 11,833 PM Kissan account
The Advisor enquired about the functionality of banks, ATMs and Ultra Small Banks. It was informed that these are functioning with limited staff and social distancing norms are being followed.
While stressing on the importance of direct benefits at this critical juncture, the Advisor instructed the Bank authorities to ensure that the beneficiaries should have easy access to their bank accounts. The banks were advised to facilitate the activation of dormant accounts of the beneficiaries.
