LEH, Apr 2: The UT administration is ensuring steady supplies of various food items in Ladakh. The commodities which include fresh vegetables, fruits, milk and also medical supplies are being flown in from Chandigarh and Delhi almost on a daily basis.
Secretary Food Supplies Ladakh Saugat Biswas informed that the administration is making every effort to ensure that there is no shortage of such supplies during the national lockdown. Biswas appealed that the people be confident about availability of supplies and stay away from hoarding food items or indulge in panic buying.
The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils have been requested to facilitate reach of the food supplies to every nook and corner. The LAHDCs in the respective districts are closely monitoring and supervising equitable distribution of supplies and adherence to the fixed rates in their respective districts, he added.
In the review, it was apprised that Kargil district has devised the distribution plan by creating eight zones of distribution and required logistics of vehicles, loader etc. have already been put in place. District Administration of Leh has issued the selling price of all commodities which is being made public. The civil supplies are being lifted with active support from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force and the 14 Corps of the Army.
Secretary Biswas also reviewed the implementation plan for Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) vide which 5 kgs of rice per soul will be provided free of cost to every member of the AAY and Priority Household category (PHH) for the coming 3 months. In addition 1 kg pulse per household will also be provided free of cost to AAY & PHH category beneficiaries during the period.
The Director FCS&CA Anil Kaul, Assistant Directors of Leh and Kargil and Managers of FCI from Leh and Kargil presented a detailed plan for implementation of the scheme.
The meeting was also attended by the SP Kargil, ADC Leh, ADC Kargil, ACD Kargil, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Leh and Presidents of Merchant Associations of Leh and Kargil.
