JAMMU, Apr 4: All J&K Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) today urged the Lieutenant Governor (LG), Girish Chandra Murmu to allow Panchayat members to use Rs 5 lakh each from 14th Finance Commission (FC) funds to provide free ration to the needy and poor people in rural areas at this time of crisis.
“Panchayats should be given the task to identify the needy families and MGNREGA workers affected by the ongoing lockdown. After identification, Panchayat members can purchase ration to provide it free of cost to the needy people so that the lockdown does not affect their day-to-day lives,” Anil Sharma, president AJKPC stated in a handout.
On constitution of Covid-19 management committees, the AJKPC leader said that Awareness and Monitoring Committees (AMCs) at block and Panchayat level would definitely bring desired results.
He also informed that around 40,000 Sarpanches and Panches of J&K Panchayats are actively working on ground to strictly enforce the lockdown called by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to fight COVID-19.
“They are ensuring cent percent social distancing at their respective Panchayats and also keep a close watch on the people having travel history in their Panchayats so that no suspect is left behind from being quarantined,” he maintained.
