JAMMU, Apr 6: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and resorted to small arms firing and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district today.
“At 5.15 pm, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling with mortar in Mankote, Balakote and Mendhar sectors,” sources said, adding that the Indian Army retaliated befittingly.
There were no casualties on the Indian side.
Meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Squad of the Army today destroyed four live mortar shells fired by Pakistani troops to target forward posts along the LoC in Balakote sector in Poonch.
The 81 mm shells had remained unexploded during the recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan and were noticed in the Balakote sector.
The officials said the Army experts rushed to the spot and later safely destroyed the mortar shells.
