Sikh bodies appeal community members to stay at home on Baisakhi

JAMMU, Apr 10: Various Sikh organizations of J&K have announced to follow the appeal made by Jathedar Shri Akaltakhat Sahib Amritsar that on the occasion of Baisakhi on 13th April, the foundation day of Khalsa Panth, the Sikhs will avoid gathering and remain in their respective homes and do indoor Simran and help in maintaining lock down.
Decision in this regard was taken after a telephonic meeting organized by S Sudershan Singh Wazir, Chairman Sikh United Front J&K and S Mohinder Singh, Chief Organizer Bhai Kaniya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K, Ex Member DGPC Jammu; S Darbinder Singh, President Shiromani Akali Dal J&K and S Kulwant Singh Khajuria, Joint Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K.
“Because Coronavirus pandemic is spreading with a strong magnitude, so it is the need of the hour to maintain physical distancing to reverse the contagious disease. It is requested to the authorities who are at the helm of affairs in J&K UT to provide the adequate facilities /protection kits to the medical staff working day night in saving the patients of coronavirus .It is also requested to arrange more ventilators as there is apprehension of rise in coronavirous patients,” the participants said.
In the meeting, the services of Sikh organizations in J&K and particularly the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandak Committee Amritsar and Delhi and Khalsa Aid International were also appreciated. An appeal was also s made to Lt Governor G C Murmu to announce ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the employees of declared essential services, who are fighting coronavirus pandemic as and when an employee sacrificed his/her lives. It was also requested to start the functioning of OPD in Hospital for checking of patient suffering with disease other than coronavirus.
The telephonic meeting was also attended by S Gajan Singh, President Sikh Welfare Society J&K; Prof Yudhvir Singh, Corporator; S Surinder Singh Kala, S Raja Singh ( Sarpanch and member DGPC Jammu), S Charanjeet Singh (retired SDM), S Rajinder Singh, S Harpreet Singh Chottu (President Youth Akali Dal), S Surjeet Singh Kukoo (President Sikh Naujawan Sabha), S Ravinder Singh (Sarpanch), Kuldeep Kour (President Istri AKali Dal), Gurmeet Kour (General Secretary Istri Akali Dal), S Manmohan Singh (Chairman Gole Gujral), S Harpeet Singh Lucky (President Sikh Student Federation) and others.
