POONCH, May 16: Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, the Inter-School Tournament of Poonch zone, under the age groups of 14 and 17 years boys and girls in the disciplines of kabaddi, volleyball and kho-kho got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
According to the organizers, 719 players drawn from various institutions of the zone are participating in the tournament.
Earlier, Makhan Lal Sharma, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch inaugurated the tournament in a well attended function. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Nazir Charak, organizing secretary, who is being assisted by Amresh Kumar, Jatinder Singh Tandan, Sarla Rani, Gurmeet Singh, Pawan Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Darshan Kour and Kulwant Singh.
Meanwhile, in kho-kho under-14 years boys, HS Degwar Maldyana outclassed HS Khari Karimara by 3 points, while in under-14 kabaddi HS Shahpur defeated MS Batwari and in volleyball under-14, Degwar Maldyana trounced HS Kalai.
HS Degwar Maldyana also clinched under-17 kho-kho title by defeating HS Purani Poonch, while under-17 kabaddi trophy went to HS Khari Karmara by beating HSS Poonch and in under-17 volleyball, HS Kalai trounced HSS Poonch by two sets to one.
In girls section, HS Bandichechian claimed the under-14 kabaddi title, while under-14 volleyball title went to HS Degwar.
In under-17 years kabaddi, HS Ajote drubbed HS Khari Karmara, while in volleyball, HS Khanater toppled HS Degwar by two serts to one (2-1) to claim the title.
