POONCH, Apr 13: At least thirty five persons, including a former Sarpanch and his family members, have been booked by Police in Poonch district after they allegedly attacked policemen who rushed to the village following reports of lockdown violation.
Police said that an information was received that a former Sarpanch had engaged around two dozen labourers in Bedar village of Poonch Mandi and was carrying out a road construction work, following which a team of police from Mandi Police Station reached the spot.
“As soon as the police personnel tried to stop the work, a number of people from the area assembled and pelted stones over the police team,” the official said, adding that a cop also received injury in his hand, forcing the police party to return from the spot.
“A case under FIR number 29/2020 under sections 188, 353, 323, 336, 269, 270 and 147 IPC has been registered in Mandi Police Station while thirty five persons have been booked for violation of lockdown and attack on police team,” said the official.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Ramesh Angral confirmed the incident and said that a case has been registered against the accused persons.
