KATHUA, Apr 15: The farmers of kathua were happy to start harvesting of wheat crops with the help of Harvester Combine Machines (HCMs) as the Agriculture Department Kathua has made it possible under mechanism of agriculture and its sanction for purchase of two Harvester Combined Machines in Kathua.
Due to lockdown, no labourer is available and in absence of Punjab based Harvester Combined Machines, the farmers were worried of their wheat crops to be harvested.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua, Vijay Kumar Upadhya accompanied by Sanjeev Rai, Agriculture Extension Planning Officer Kathua, have initiated the harvesting work under their supervision.
Mr Upadhaya said that under the Mechanism of Agriculture, two farmer beneficiaries were given the subsidy of Rs 8 lakh each to purchase the Harvester Combined Machines, adding that with the help of these two Harvester Combined Machines the harvesting for wheat crops started well in time despite the present crisis due to Covid-19.
He said that kathua district has 44000 hectare of wheat crop area, adding that the two HCMs will go a long way to help farmers to do their job properly.
“Some more machines will be brought if the need arises,” Upadhaya added.
Meanwhile, harvesting of wheat crop in areas of district Samba like the rest of the country has been started by farmers vigorously. However, farmers while harvesting the crop are taking utmost care of social distancing due to threat of COVID-19 for which the Government also announced the lockdown.
The farmers believe that the Government is making all efforts for exterminating COVID -19 and they have full faith and trust in commendable job of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Though lockdown and threat of Corona Virus has created the problems to farmers as they can’t work in fields jointly but they can harvest the crop by maintaining distance and covering their mouths with masks for their safety.
As the harvesting season of wheat has started any further delay will lead to heavy loss to farmers who have already been put to heavy loss last year’s unseasonal rains. Hence the farmers have started harvesting the crop by keeping the advisories of the Government in mind.
