Tabligh associate test +ve in Reasi, Corona cases in Jammu rise to 58

Doc, Tablighis among 7 discharged; total 29 cured

JAMMU, Apr 26: A 46 year old teacher, who was associated with Tablighi Jamaat and hailed from village Jamsalan in Mahore tehsil of Reasi district today tested positive for Coronavirus taking tally of Jammu to 58 but seven more COVID patients including three Tablighis from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and a female doctor recovered bringing down number of active cases in the region to 28.
With this, Reasi has become seventh district of Jammu region to be affected by Coronavirus leaving number of Corona-free districts to just three including Doda, Kishtwar and Poonch.
Official sources said the 46 year old male teacher from Jamsalan village in Mahore tehsil of Reasi had travel history to Uttar Pradesh from where he had returned on February 11 and attended Jamaat at religious place in Bari Brahamana on February 14 and 15. He had also visited some other areas of Jammu. However, after his travel history was detected, he was kept under administrative quarantine at Mahore for 14 days from April 9. His sample was taken during quarantine and he tested positive today for COVID-19.
Sources said Health and police teams have been sent to Jamsalan to shift the positive patient to Chest Diseases Hospital in Jammu as he was still asymptomatic.
Authorities have declared village Jamsalan as Red Zone and restricted movement of people in and outside the village.
Reasi, Ramban and Kathua districts have one Corona positive case each now. Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri and Samba are other districts hit by the pandemic.
With this, total Corona cases in Jammu region have gone up to 58.
GMC Jammu today conducted 351 tests for COVID-19 under the supervision of Dr Shashi S Sudan, HoD Microbiology. Another 122 tests were conducted in Command Hospital Udhampur taking number of total tests in Jammu in a single day to 473.
Meanwhile, seven more Corona positive patients were today treated and discharged from two Hospitals in Jammu further bringing down number of active patients in the region to 28.
Five COVID patients were treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu. They included three Tablighi Jamaat activities, two hailing from Uttar Pradesh and another from Mumbai, who were sent to a religious place in Sunjwan on the outskirts of Jammu City after being discharged from the hospital as they were staying there when tested positive for COVID-19.
A female dental doctor posted at CHC Tikri and a resident of Colonel Colony, Talab Tillo and a Tablighi contact from Ramnagar in Udhampur district have also been treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma told the Excelsior.
Two other Corona patients were treated and discharged from dedicated COVID Hospital at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. They included daughter-in-law and granddaughter of a woman hailing from village Tikri in Udhampur district, who was the first and lone Corona casualty in Jammu region.
Jammu has total 58 Corona cases and the number of patients treated and discharged from the hospitals has now gone up to 29 while there has been one death which left 28 active cases in the region.
Doctors said all Corona patients admitted in the different hospitals of Jammu were stable. An Army jawan from Samba district, who was lone soldier for testing positive for COVID-19 in Jammu region, has also tested negative once. However, as per protocol, the patient can be declared as treated after he tests negative twice.
Meanwhile, 255 more residents of Jammu and Kashmir stranded in different parts of Himachal Pradesh reached Lakhanpur today while 376 students will be returning tomorrow from Kota, Rajasthan.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh today announced return of 376 J&K students from Kota, Rajasthan to the Union Territory tomorrow.
In a tweet, Dr Jitendra Singh said: “A reassuring piece of information for anxious parents in Jammu and Kashmir. 376 J&K students in Kota set to return tomorrow. All arrangements finalized. The Narendra Modi Government stands committed to well-being of these youngsters”.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said 255 more stranded people of J&K reached Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, from Shimla, Kangra and other places today and were sent to respective district headquarters in the Government buses where they will be subjected to 14-day administrative quarantine before being sent home.
Fifty-seven people reached Ladakh from Kota, Rajasthan and were sent to respective district headquarters of Leh and Kargil for quarantine before reaching home.
Meanwhile, several District Magistrates today issued orders reiterating relaxations under yesterday’s Government order on opening of shops fixing timing.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla has issued Ward-wise roaster of opening of stationery shops in the town to help students get books as online classes have already started.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara said the shops of books, pesticides etc have already been opened rotation wise with fixed timings and more relaxations will be given as per the UT Government order.
Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode while reproducing the UT Government order on opening of shops in urban and rural areas said the shopkeepers must ensure that circles will be paint-marked in front of shops to effect social distancing and there shall be a rope on the entrance of shops so that no one is allowed inside the shop.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav has also issued an order listing shops of essential commodities which will open daily from 8 am to 1 pm and other shops like mobile repairing/electronic, stationery, workshops and those dealing with construction works which will open twice or thrice a week from 8 am to 1 pm. However, cotton masks making units will open daily round-the-clock.
District Magistrate Rajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh today also issued the order for opening of shops of essential commodities on all days from 10 am to 2 pm and other shops like stationery/book stores, mobile/ computer shops, mobile recharge kiosks/shops and stores dealing with construction material on twice or thrice a day from 2 pm to 5 pm.
