27 including dead woman test +ve in Kashmir, J&K tally 523

Srinagar, Apr 26: Twenty seven people including a pregnant woman who died in Anantnag hospital yesterday tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir today taking the COVID-19 positive people in Kashmir to 461 and Jammu and Kashmir tally has gone utp to 523.
The number of COVID-19 patients in Jammu and Kashmir crossed 500-mark as 27 more tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus today. While the overall tally in J&K has gone up to 523, 143 of cases were added in the last five days alone.
Among 27 cases, 16 were confirmed at Viral Diagnostic Lab of SKIMS Soura, all from North Kashmir districts including eight from Bandipora, seven Baramulla and one Kupwara.
Eleven other cases were confirmed at the COVID-19 testing laboratory at Government Medical College Srinagar and nine were from Anantnag district and two from Srinagar.
The nine cases from Anantnag district include 8-year-old girl from Issoo Achabal and a 56-year-old Indian System of Medicine (ISM) Pharmacist, a resident of Tailwani Achabal who is posted at Primary Health Centre Achabal and had 10 days ago developed some chest infection. The other cases from the Anantnag district include 35-year-old woman from Bijbhera besides three women aged 44, 47 and 60 years and three men aged 38, 65 and 70 from Nowgam area.
A pregnant woman from Kharpora village of Anantnag district who died yesterday at Child and Maternity Hospital Anantnag has tested positive for Corona.
She was from Red Zone and was taken to GMC Anantnag hospital where she died. Authorities ordered a probe into the death of the woman and her twin babies after doctors allegedly delayed her treatment at the hospital over apprehensions that she might be a coronavirus patient.
Family members alleged that since she hailed from a Red Zone area, doctors were hesitant to treat her, which eventually led to her and the twins’ death. With her death, the number of Corona deaths in Kashmir have gone to 7 including six from Kashmir.
Three doctors and two nurses, who might have come in contact of the woman, have been immediately moved to quarantine.
An inquiry into the alleged mishandling the woman’s body at Maternity hospital Anantnag has also been ordered. The bodies of the twins were given immediately to the family, the corpse of the woman was initially kept at the hospital.
The hospital authorities took her samples for the Coronavirus and later handed it over to the family, conceding to the demands of latter despite directions by the Principal GMC that the corpse should be kept in the hospital mortuary till reports of her samples return.
It has been directed that all the people who conducted her last rites including the family should be quarantined immediately.
Bandipora cases include seven persons from Gund Jahangir, one of the worst hit villages. They include 5-year-old girl, three men aged 24, 25 and 30 besides three women aged 27, 50 and 60 years. The other case from the district is a 33-year-old woman of Wusun Goshbugh village.
The Baramulla has seven positive cases today and include 26-year-old woman of Kakerhamam, 32-year-old man of Zandfaran Malpora, a 29-year-old policeman of Chijhama Rafiabad besides four members of a family including two women aged 24 and 28 years besides two men aged 21 and 23 years belonging to Malpora.
Srinagar district reported two fresh cases, one of them a 40-year-old pregnant woman and another is a 45-year-old shopkeeper, both residents of Watal Kadal Srinagar. These two cases who have been admitted to JLNM Hospital Rainawari are from Red Zone Srinagar. They are neighbours of previous positive patients already admitted at JLNM Hospital Rainawari Srinagar.
Kupwara’s case is a 40 year old from Sheikhpora Manigah village and had returned only four days ago from New Delhi.
With these fresh cases, Bandipora now has 123 COVID-19 positives, followed by 86 in Srinagar, 63 in Shopian, 62 in Baramulla, 47 in Kupwara, 49 in Anantnag, 14 each in Ganderbal and Budgam, 6 in Kulgam and 3 in Pulwama.
Government has listed 66977 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases for surveillance which includes 6232 persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 258 in Hospital Quarantine, 380 in hospital isolation, and 10763 under home surveillance. Besides, 49338 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Out of 13959 test results available 12436 samples have tested as negative and 523 as positive.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 39th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
