SRINAGAR, Apr 27: Two minor sisters were killed in flash floods triggered by heavy rains in the mountainous area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today.
The two sisters Rumaisa, 14, and Ruksana, 6, daughters of Ghulam Rasool Hajam were washed away in the flash floods at Rangwar Kul this afternoon.
The incident occurred when the duo was grazing the cattle in the nearby field and suddenly the flash floods hit the area amid heavy rains. <
Deputy Commissioner Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganai said that the siblings were washed away resulting in their on spot death due to drowning.
Soon after the incident, the searches were immediately launched and the bodies of the minors were recovered from a canal near Kutebal.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Rs 8 lakhs would be given as ex-gratia to the bereaved family under SDRF.
