JAMMU, Apr 30: In the ongoing nationwide lockdown, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has removed tonnes of garbage while cleaning the city.
In sanitation drive that started on March 23 this year and is still continuing, JMC has cleaned Barnai, Sunjwan, roads of Talab Tillo, Trikuta Nagar, National Highway at Narwal and Sidhra, Channi, Kanjuwani etc.
A handout of the JMC stated that garbage accumulated for years in these areas has been cleared and de-silting of deep drains was also done apart from installing dustbins at the required places.
Apart from daily lifting of garbage from the city, over 3500 tonnes of garbage and silt has also been removed from deep drains at Nanak Nagar, Landoi Choi, Kabir Colony, Kalika Colony, Sanjay Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Talab Tillo.
The handout further stated that over 10,000 tonnes of silt has been removed till date by the JMC.
On the directions of Avny Lavasa, JMC Commi-ssioner and under the supervision of Tinna Mahajan, Secretary JMC and Sudhir Bali, Assistant Commissioner (Rev), JMC has deployed men and machinery for the special cleanliness drive.
Apart from this JMC in coordination with Fire Brigade Jammu and Agriculture Department has put boom sprayers and new mist sprayers into service for cleaning all the main roads, flyovers, Tawi bridges etc to reduce the possibility of spreading Coronavirus pandemic.
