Mayor, staff quarantined after Corporator tests +ve

SRINAGAR, May 5 : A Corporator of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) who was at the forefront of sanitation drive in Srinagar since March was among 13 people who tested positive for the COVID-19, taking the Corona positive tally in Jammu and Kashmir to 741.
Those who tested positive include a Corporator of SMC, a resident of Narwara Srinagar, who was at the forefront of sanitation drive in Srinagar city. He is the contact of his brother who tested positive for Corona last week. His brother who had a travel history had concealed it.
This has forced Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattoo and his staff besides other Corporators to go for home quarantine as the Corporator was in touch with the Mayor and others in SMC.
The brother of the Corporator arrived in Srinagar in a truck on April 26. All his contacts including truck driver were traced and quarantined. The SMC Corporators have demanded an inquiry as to how he managed to arrive in Srinagar and who facilitated his return under lockdown.
Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, said that nine out of 898 samples, processed at Viral Diagnostic Lab of the hospital, tested positive today for Coronavirus and include six from Shopian, two from Bandipora and one from Baramulla.
The Nodal Officer of GMC Srinagar Dr Saleem Khan said that out of 838 samples processed at CD hospital’s COVID-19 laboratory, five tested positive. He said that 833 samples tested negative and 188 more samples are under process in the lab.
Besides Corporator, a 34-old woman and her two daughters, 7and 13-year-old from Wander Mohalla Rainawari in Srinagar also tested positive. And fifth positive case tested at GMC lab is a 30-year-old woman from Telwani area of Anantnag district. They are all contacts of already Corona positive cases.
A 55-year-old man from Manzinpora in district Shopian tested positive today. Five people from Heerpora, one of the worst-hit areas in Shopian, also tested positive. They include two women aged 18 and 35 years and three men aged 18, 25 and 50 years.
Bandipora reported two fresh cases-one of them a 6-year-old boy from Naidkhai and other 41-year-old man from Gund Kaiser while Baramulla’s only case is a 22-year-old woman from Nowpora Sopore.
With these cases, Bandipora has 132 positive cases followed by Srinagar 113, Anantnag 110, Baramulla 104, Shopian 89, Kupwara 66, Budgam 30, Ganderbal 14 , Kulgam 11 and Pulwama 9. Ganderbal is Corona-free as all the 14 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
And 17 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals today. They include one from Bandipora, three from Baramulla, six from Shopian and seven from Kupwara district.
And out of 741 positive cases, 413 are active positive, 320 have recovered and eight have died.
Government has so far put 80206 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases under surveillance. They include 13688 persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 213 in Hospital Quarantine, 413 in hospital isolation and 7274 under home surveillance. Besides, 58610 persons have completed their surveillance period.
