‘Retirees in depression, shock due to Govt apathy’

JAMMU, May 6: J&K Non Gazettd Electric Employees Association (JKNGEEA) has expressed its strong resentment over the delaying tactics of the UT administration in settling the pension cases of over 250 employees of Power Development Department (PDD) which are now pending before the concerned authorities for over last two years.
In a joint statement issued here, today Mohammed Maqbool, general secretary, Gurmeet Singh State secretary, Zakir Hussain Shah, regional convener and Surinder Kumar, regional secretary of the Association said that the retired employees whose cases are pending for finalization for over last two years are in desperation and shock as they are unable to perform their social ceremonies due to non settlement of pension cases. Mohammed Maqbool said even the marriage ceremonies of the children of some of the pensioners who were eyeing the pension amount like gratuity, commutation etc are held up for the same and these families are in great distress.
He said shocked over the delaying tactics in settling his pension case which is pending for over two years one pensioner who was also an activist of the Association, Subash Chander suffered sudden heart attack recently and passed away as he could not tolerate the humiliation and harassment meted out to him due to non settlement of pension case.
Maqbool said this has shocked the entire fraternity of PDD employees in general and Association in particular and the trade unionists hold PDD authorities responsible for his death. The Association also demanded immediate inquiry as to why the authorities failed to settle the pension cases of retired employees for over last two years as these families are in miserable condition and depression.
The Association demanded immediate settlement of pension cases pending under SRO 59 which are pending in power sector in both regions of Jammu and Kashmir valley.
