More than 6200 stranded people reach Ladakh

KARGIL, May 11: In continuation to the steps being taken by the Union Territory Administration Ladakh to ensure the homecoming of the Ladakhi people including students stranded in different parts of the country due to the countrywide lockdown triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 1300 residents and students belonging to Leh and Kargil districts in 37 buses and 101 light vehicles reached Kargil today.
These included 22 buses and 87 light vehicles carrying Kargil bound and 15 buses and 14 light vehicles carrying Leh bound passengers.
With this, right since the evacuation process began, the UT administration has ensured the evacuation of more than 6200 residents and students into Ladakh through 324 buses and 276 light vehicles.
Strict norms of social distancing and other safety and health precautions including sanitization of the buses, wearing of masks and other required precautions as per SOPs have been duly followed during the entire travel.
Moreover, strict screening of each and every passenger as well as the drivers and helpers of the inbound vehicles is being done at the screening points established at Meenamarg.
While as residents from Kargil are being sent away to their respective native places from Council Secretariat premises Kargil in special buses arranged for this purpose. They are further advised by the authorities to strictly follow mandatory 21 days home quarantine to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus for their own safety and the safety of others. The Magistrates and other concerned officers of the respective areas have also been issued strict instructions to carry out continued surveillance measures.
The residents and students belonging to Leh district proceed to their home where they are screened at the screening point established at Khaltse before proceeding to Leh.
