JAMMU, May 17: In these testing times of COVID-19 pandemic FCI J&K Region has spearheaded the relief work by ensuring sufficient and uninterrupted supply of Food Grains to the masses.
“As on May 16, around 108632 MT Rice valuing around Rs 422 Crores has been delivered by FCI to UT of J&K & Ladakh, under Pardhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY) which is 98% of the total allocation made by Government of India for Jammu & Kashmir Region and 100% of the total allocation for Ladakh Region,” a release issued by FCI J&K said, adding, the food grains under this scheme has been distributed to PHH and AAY population free of cost for the months of April, May and June 2020.
According to the release, around 2900 Quintals of Rice has also been distributed to various organizations for charitable work of feeding the needy people. In addition to issuing stocks under PMGKAY, FCI J&K has also delivered 122354 MT stocks under NFSA for months of April and May during the lock down period in entire J&K including UT of Ladakh.
Moreover as per recently launched Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme (ANBS) by the Government of India, food grains will be provided free of cost at the rate of 5 Kg Rice per person per month for May and June to migrant labour who are not covered under NFSA or State Scheme PDS cards. The allocation under this scheme is of 7241MT for J&K Region and 144 MT for Ladakh Region.
The release mentioned that FCI in J&K Region is all geared up to ensure supply of food grains under this scheme also as it has already been doing in all the other welfare schemes of Government of India.
