7 Corona +ve persons travelled in flights

JAMMU, May 28: Fourteen persons including four securitymen, two of them Army soldiers and two CRPF personnel, today tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu taking total Corona cases in the region to 400 and active to 301. They included seven who had travelled in different flights from New Delhi and Srinagar to Jammu and crews of the flights are likely to be quarantined and sampled for the virus.
Officials told the Excelsior that seven persons who had travelled in four different flights from New Delhi and Srinagar to Jammu on May 26 and were sampled at the Jammu Airport on their arrival, today tested positive for COVID-19. Three persons tested positive in one of the New Delhi-Jammu flight, two defence personnel in another New Delhi-Jammu aircraft and one each were on board in two separate flights that landed at Jammu Airport from New Delhi and Srinagar.
District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan told the Excelsior that they have written to the concerned Airlines for quarantine of the staff. However, passengers travelling in the aircrafts have already been quarantined and sampled at Jammu Airport as per the existing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
No `Shramik Special’ train arrived at Udhampur Railway Station for third consecutive day today, District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla said.
However, at Jammu Airport, 294 passengers landed today in seven flights from New Delhi and Srinagar while 324 departed, Director Airport Parvat Ranjan Beuria said.
Four flights landed at Jammu Airport from New Delhi and three from Srinagar today, As per the protocol, the passengers were sampled and sent for administrative quarantine.
A 45-year old man from Raipur Satwari in Jammu district, who happened to be contact of eight already positive cases of the same area, today tested positive for COVID-19 and has been hospitalized. Containment area of Raipur Satwari has been further extended. SHO Satwari Inspector Gurmeet Singh visited the spot to restrict movement of the people further.
A CRPF personnel hailing from Krimchi in Udhampur district who was under administrative quarantine at Bantalab Jammu, has tested positive for the virus. He was on way to his home on leave and his sample was taken at Jammu Railway Station during which he tested positive.
Six persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Kathua district including a CRPF jawan, who had come on leave to his residence at Kathua.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said five other persons who tested positive were returnees from different States and hailed from Gurha Mudian, Billawar and Kathua. All of them were under administrative quarantine and asymptomatic and have been admitted in the COVID Hospitals.
In Rajouri district, four persons have tested positive. They included two Army jawans, one each hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, who had returned to duties after availing leave. Both of them were under quarantine at Army facilities.
Two workers hailing from Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri district, who had returned from Mumbai, have also tested positive, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said.
Two youth hailing from Kanari, Mandi and Sangiot, Gursai in Poonch district today tested Corona positive. The Sangiot youth is a student, who had returned from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh while Mandi youth is a worker and had returned from Mumbai.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said both the returnees were under administrative quarantine and now they have been shifted to the COVID Hospital.
Nineteen police personnel have been quarantined in Poonch after wife of a Sub Inspector tested positive for Corona yesterday. The SI has also been quarantined and sampled.
One person today tested positive for Coronavirus in Reasi district, who happened to be a returnee.
Meanwhile, the Microbiology Department of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has so far conducted 32,635 tests for Coronavirus including maximum of 1600 in a day and was conducting 1200-1300 tests on an average per day under the command of HoD Microbiology Dr Shashi S Sudhan.
The GMC Jammu Lab, which is a State Referral Laboratory is affiliated with Regional Lab of PGI Chandigarh.
Sources said some samples of Jammu region were earlier sent to Kashmir as large numbers of people of the Valley had returned from Lakhanpur via buses and others through trains. However, now majority of samples of Jammu region are being tested at the GMC Jammu, Command Hospital Udhampur and IIIM Jammu.
Jammu region now has 400 Corona positive cases, 301 of whom were active as 96 have been treated and discharged from the hospitals while there have been three deaths.
Two patients were today treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar Jammu, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
Meanwhile, as part of evacuation of passengers stranded in Jammu and Kashmir, 3 ‘Shramik Special’ trains carrying about 4002 migrant workers have left from Katra for UP today.
With this, the total number of outbound migrant workers who have been sent back to their home States and UTs through Shramik special trains from Katra since May 19, has reached 30566. So far, the Government has arranged 19 special ‘Shramik’ trains to facilitate the migrant workers reach their hometowns safely.
