JAMMU, June 3: The cycling community- Jammu Hill Cyclist (JHC) celebrated World Bicycle Day by organising group rides to popularise the use of bicycles in daily life.
The members of Jammu Hill Cyclist, participated in a 25-km group ride to create awareness among people about the benefits of cycling.
“Besides its health benefits, cycling could help considerably reduce carbon footprint with reduced use of two-wheelers and four-wheelers,” the members said.
In a statement issued here JHC said that it wanted to tell the world that cycling was a sustainable, clean, affordable and environment-friendly mode of commuting towards a healthy tomorrow.
“Celebrating World Bicycle Day for the second year after it was declared June 3 by the United Nations in April 2018, JHC would continue to contribute its bit to take forward the initiative towards a healthy lifestyle for the people,” the members maintained.
JHC ride began with over 20 riders assembling at Hari Singh Statue at wee hours today and rode through the city and its periphery.
JHC president Dheeraj Gupta, Vice-President Sahil Sharma and other members were present on the occasion.
“Since its inception in 2019, the club has adopted many environment-friendly initiatives for reducing pollution, including car-free day, Vanamahotsava and the like,” said JHC member Praveen Raina.
Twenty members were present in the group ride that was flagged off near Hari Singh Statue at 5.30 am.
Senior members namely Rajesh Padha, Surinder Choudhary (SP), Rahul Sharma, Sahil Sharma, Abhishake Gupta, Dr Sandeep, Kunal Chib and Sham Suri were also present.
Other team members Rajesh Koul and his Son Ronel Koul also paddled for same event in Gurgaon.
