World Environment Day celebrated

JAMMU, June 5: World Environment Day was celebrated here today.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, J&K Bank Chairman and MD RK Chhibber and his senior management team planted saplings at Badamvaer today. In the picturesque Badamvaer which is developed and maintained by the bank, the bank’s CMD RK Chhibber planted a sapling along with the bank’s Executive Presidents Arun Gandotra, Sunil Gupta, Presidents Rajni Saraf, Chetan Paljore and Ashraf Ali, Special Secretary to CMD Karanjit Singh and other officers of the bank. However, on the occasion, the CMD and the top executives planted saplings individually also. Meanwhile, a similar plantation drive also took place across Kashmir and Jammu Zones to commemorate the World Environment Day.
World Environment Day was celebrated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. RK Sinha, planted many new varieties of plants across the scenic and beautiful campus of University. Department of Environmental Sciences, Government Degree College RS Pura organized an activity to celebrate World Environment Day under the guidance of Principal Dr Sunita Sudan and supervision of Prof Esha Abrol, Head of Department. About 40 students of the college participated in the event and made best out of waste products, planted saplings, made posters and paintings.
GDC Akhnoor organized online intercollegiate poster making competition on the occasion of World Environment Day under the theme “Time for Nature”, which was jointly organized by NSS Unit, Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat Club and Department of EVS under the supervision of Principal Dr Namarta. All the participants were given e-certificates.
Botany Department of the Government Degree College, Ramnagar organized Online Inter Collegiate Quiz competition. More than 500 participants from different colleges and universities across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the competition. Dr Udhey Bhanu, Principal of the college was the chief patron of program.
GDC, Vijaypur on the instructions of the Principal Dr Sangeeta Sudan celebrated the day. The faculty members of the institute planted saplings in the college premises.
To celebrate World Environment Day, an online Inter-College Quiz Competition was organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences of GDC Khour under the guidance of Prof Hans Raj Principal of the College. First 100 toppers who secured more than 65 per cent marks were given online certificates of participation.
Government College for Women Udhampur under the guidance of Principal Prof Minu Mahajan organized a plantation drive in the college campus to celebrate the day. Along with teaching and non teaching staff, the District Administration staff on COVID-19 duty also planted the saplings.
All India Level Online Painting Competition on the theme “Paint Your Emotions” on World Environment Day was organized by Government College of Education Jammu under the guidance of Principal Prof (Dr) Sangita Nagari. The organizing team comprised of Dr Zubair Kales, Prof Shalini Rana and Dr Shubhra Jamwal. The 1st position was bagged by Kanika Chadgal of Government Medical College, Jammu, Sanjana Deo of BHU, Varanasi and Divya Patel of Institute of Education Jhansi, shared 2nd position and Ajay Bahu of Government College of Education, Jammu and Sangeetha of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University secured the 3rd position. Harshleen Kour of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Andrea Susan Baby of Kerala won the certificates of appreciation.
Department of Environmental Sciences, Government Degree College, Doda in collaboration with Department of Zoology and IQAC, Doda organized a webinar on the theme “Celebrate Biodiversity”. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr Sumit Kotwal, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC, Doda (Organizing Secretary of the event). It was followed by an audio message by Dr. Shafqat Hussain Rafiqui, Principal GDC Doda. Dr Aijaz Ahmed Wani, Head, Department of Zoology and Co-ordinator IQAC, GDC Doda delivered keynote lecture.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Department of Environment Sciences, Government Degree College Kalakote organized online Quiz competition. The winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize were Suman Devi from GDC Reasi, Tania Gupta from GDC Kunjwani and Asif Karim from GDC Kalakote respectively. Prof (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the College announced that the e-certificates shall be sent to all the participants of the poster competition and participants of the quiz competition those who has taken 70% or above marks.
World Environment Day was celebrated at GDC Ramgarh. On the occasion, a plantation drive was conducted, in which all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college participated. Prof (Dr) Meeru Abrol Principal of the college was also present on the occasion.
Department of Environment Science, Government Degree College Budhal organised online National Level Quiz Competition on the theme ‘Time For Nature’. Students of Jammu and Kashmir and students belonging to the different States and Central Universities participated in the competition. Principal of the College, Dr Mohd Mazammal Hussain exhorted to constantly perform such type of events in near future.
A national level online quiz contest was organized by Department of Environmental Sciences of Government Post Graduate College Rajouri to mark the World Environment Day. Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina was also present on the occasion. A total of 400 contestants from 97 institutes of the country participated in the event. Participants, who secured 60 per cent and above marks were awarded e-certificates immediately after they qualified the test.
Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Ravi Eco Club of GDC Kathua organised Inter College Online Declamation Contest and Poster Making Competition. Prof Assa Ram Sharma Principal GDC Kathua, Dr. Deepshikha Sharma HOD Environmental Sciences and Convener Ravi Eco Club were among others present on the occasion. Among the category of Poster Making Competition, Ist prize was won by Leepika Sharma from MAM College Jammu while 2nd and 3rd prize went to Shazia Bano and Harneet Kour from GCW Gandhi Nagar and GDC Kathua respectively. Manvi Sharma of GDC Kahtua, Sanya Mehta of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Shivani Thapa of GCW Gandhi Nagar were given the consolation prizes. The 1st, 2nd and 3rdspots of Declamation Contest had been won by Meher Fatima of GCW Parade, Aditi Tikku of GDC Kathua and Amandeep Sharma of GDC Kathua respectively. The consolation prizes were given to Kiranpreet Kour of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Chandrika Verma GCW Gandhi Nagar.
In the presence of Session Judge Madan Lal, DC Poonch Rahul Yadav, Poonch Forest Division headed by DFO Poonch Mohan Choudhary along with Social Forestry and Forest Protection Force celebrated World Environment Day in Forest Complex Poonch and planted saplings of Chinar.
Under the visionary guidance of Justice Gita Mittal, Patron-in-Chief J&K SLSA and the supervision of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, “WorldEnvironment Day’ was observed by J&K SLSA. J&K SLSA commemorated the special day by undertaking and organizing a host of activities including plantation, awareness and cleanliness drives across all districts of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh through District Legal Services Authorities and its Para Legal Volunteers. To observe the day, District Legal Services Authority Jammu worked on the theme “Time for Nature” with a focus to provide the essential infrastructure that supports life on Earth with the aim to create biodiversity in the district through its Para Legal Volunteers, Retainer lawyers, NGO’s and TLSC’s viz Jammu, R.S. Pura , Bishnah and Akhnoor. More than 700 saplings of various trees were planted to mark the day. At Leh, DLSA Leh undertook plantation of 40 willow trees and 10 apple trees within the Court Complex site at Melong Thang. At Baramulla, cleanliness and plantation drives were conducted by DLSA Baramulla at various places simultaneously. Plantation drives were also extensively undertaken by DLSA’s of Srinagar and Samba in their respective Districts. Similar activities were undertaken by other DLSA’s of J&K and Ladakh with the objective of protection and fostering the environment and the rich Bio-Diversity.
District Legal Service Authority Bhadarwah in collaboration with J&K Forest Department celebrated World Environment Day by planting cedar saplings and launching an awareness campaign to preserve the rich biodiversity of the region. The programme started with the planting of cedar saplings by the chief guest DFO Bhadarwah Chander Shekhar and retainer lawyer of DLSA Mohd Majid Malik.
Department of Agriculture Kashmir celebrated World Environmental Day across the valley. Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi threw light regarding importance of the day. Director also visited Mushroom Demonstration cum Training Centre at Lalmandi, Srinagar and took stock of various ongoing mushroom cultivating activities being undertaken at the centre. During the visit Deputy Director Agriculture (Central) Kashmir Syed Waseem Ahmad Shah, Chief Agriculture Officer, Srinagar Arvind Kumar Baru, Mushroom Development Officer Srinagar Navtej Singh and other senior functionaries of the department were also present.
J&K BJP leaders celebrated the World Environment Day by planting the saplings at Park in Talab Tillo area. BJP RS Pura Prabhari Ayodhya Gupta along with J&K BJP Media Secretary and Media Department Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra by planting saplings at Municipal Park in Rama Lane, Talab Tillo. Veena Gupta BJP Executive Committee Member, Sahil Sharma, Vikas Gupta, Bablo Kumar, Jung Bahadur and TS Sheri were also present on the occasion.
To mark the World Environment Day, the 7th Battalion of SSB in collaboration with the Forest Division Batote carried out a day long plantation drive. On the occasion, the staff of 7th Battalion of SSB led by 2nd-in-Command, Sanjay Kumar and Range Officer Angraj Singh under the supervision of DFO Batote Kuldip Singh planted about 800 trees saplings in the landslide prone area of Forest Compartment No.11 beside the NH44.
Bhartiya Shiksha Samiti J&K organized the world environment day program in the Naryan Bahwan Ved Mandir Complex. On this occasion many herbal and ornamental plants were planted in the complex by Suresh, Retd Bank Officer and Vibhag Sangchalak, Pradeep Kumar Prant Sanghthan Mantri Bhartiya Shiksha Samiti J&K, Mahesh, Pardeep Tripathi Prant Narikshak Bhartiya Shiksha Samit J&K, etc.
NHPC’s celebrated the ‘World Environment Day’ at its Corporate Office and also across all its regional offices, power stations and projects. The main highlight of the celebrations at NHPC Office Complex was the inauguration of a ‘Herbal Park’ by AK Singh, CMD, NHPC in the presence of Ratish Kumar, Director (Projects), NK Jain, Director (Personnel), MK Mittal, Director (Finance), YK Chaubey, Director (Technical) and AK Srivastava, CVO.
On the occasion of World Environment day, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress General Secretary Nimrandeep Singh Bhullar along with his JKPYC Secretaries Brinder Pratap Singh and Divyansh Singh Jamwal planted twenty trees in Jammu City and around to spread awareness among the society.
To mark the ‘World Environment Day’, Horticulture Department at Chatha Pind distributed free plants to 200 families. Horticulture Development Officer, Satwari Dheeraj Sharma and Ramesh Sharma (HTG-II) took opportunity to broaden the basis of horticulture department. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Chief Horticulture Officer, Jammu Sarbjit Singh.
With the mission and efforts to sensitize the people about the Environment, Bicycle for Change (Cyclist Club) organised 29 kilometer ride which starts from Kathua stadium.
In this ride following cyclists namely Sunil Sharma, Advocate Rahul Sharma, Avinash Charak, Lukesh Sharma, Sukshm Sharma, Bharat Tangri, Shubham Sharma, Sahil Sharma, Dr Anish Sharma, Mohit Bhram, Suraj Singh Prakhar, Vishesh and Sahil Soodan participated.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Corporator Sahil Gupta planted saplings at KC Morh in Bishnah Tushar Digra, Rattan Lal, Ajay, Vijay Mehra and others were present on the occasion.
On World Environment Day, Innerwheel Club Jammu Tawi Secretary Rattan Prabha alongwith others planted sapling in Apna Vihar Colony Jammu in fond memory of her deceased Club Editor Asha Chandan who left for her heavenly abode in March this year. Retd Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Mukerjit Sharma, Retd DC Excise BS Mastana, Retd Principal Harcharan Singh, KS Arora Secretary General JK Excise State Taxes Employees Welfare Society & Allied Association, Er Rup Krishan Mattoo Retd SE, Team Mask Force Chairman Retd DC State Taxes Vijay Sharma, President of club Reva Raina and Advocate BR Chandan were present on the occasion.
To mark World Environment Day, Nat Manch planted saplings of Bael trees. Founder and President Nat Manch Tarun Sharma was also present on the occasion.

With a view to conserve the environment, Bharat Scout and Guide, Unit Udhampur carried out a plantation drive under the guidance of Chief Education Officer Parshottam Dutt and District Secretary Balwan Singh. Scout Master Rakesh Sharma, Rakesh Singh, Vikram Gupta, Vivek Gupta, Ved Dubey, Avinash Thapa, Ajay Mathur and guide Captain Divyanagna Dubey, Anuradha Sharma, Swarna Devi and Priyanka Sharma jointly planted saplings.
National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteer Kashish Mahajan from Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Central University of Jammu organized different programs on the occasion of World Environment Day on the theme ‘Time For Nature’.
On the eve of World Environment Day, a plantation drive was carried-out at Range Police Headquarters Udhampur initiated by DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Sujit Kumar with plantation of saplings. Many police officers and officials were present on the occasion and participated in the plantation drive.
