‘Any move to privatize power distribution will fail’

JAMMU, June 8: All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has urged upon the J&K Lt. Governor to not to privatize the power distribution in the Union Territory.
In a letter to the Lt. Governor AIPEF has written that with the present law and order problem in J&K, any move to privatize power distribution will certainly fail and collapse.
In a handout V.K Gupta, Federation Spokesperson stated that instead of initiating the process of privatization of power distribution, the government should take the work of constituting State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).
He also said if J&K government intends to appoint any consultant for restructuring of the distribution system, the same should be approved by the SERC.
“The government should give details of how the free power it is getting from a number of projects in J&K is to be utilized,” he maintained adding that the government should give in detail the safeguard and precautions by which it will protect the service conditions of the existing employees.
