Educational institutions conduct various activities on eve of Yoga Day

JAMMU, June 20: On the eve of International Yoga Day (IDA), various educational and other institutions across Jammu division organised different activities.
Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India, J&K organised a webinar on “Philosophy of Yoga” as a part of celebrations of International Yoga Day 2020.
Many prominent Yoga experts of J&K including professors, doctors, and students from different Universities and Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the two hour long webinar.
During the webinar, a threadbare discussion and interaction on the philosophy of Yoga and its origin was carried out by the panellists who emphasised on the various aspects of Yoga.
NSS unit of Government Degree College RS Pura in collaboration with 2 J&K Girls BN NCC Jammu organised online poetry recitation competition on the eve of International Yoga Day.
The event was organised under the supervision of College Principal, Dr Sunita Sudan and Prof Bindu Kumari, NSS Programme Officer and Lt Shaveta Chowdhary, ANO Girls NCC.
About 15 NSS volunteers and 15 Girl NCC cadets participated in the online event. The first prize was shared by Cadet Manpreet Kour of semester-IV and Poornima Jojra, NSS volunteer of semester-IV. The 2nd prize was bagged by Sourav Sharma whereas 3rd prize went to Cadet Nitika Chowdhary. Two consolation prizes were also given to Robin Choudhary and Cadet Riya Sharma.
On second day of the three day Yoga workshop, Government Degree College Vijaypur today organized an inter-collegiate online digital poster making competition.
Miswa Kousar of GDC Vijaypur secured 1st position, the 2nd position was shared by Anchal Singh of MAM College and Raghav Banotra of GDC Vijaypur whereas Pallavi Lakhnota of GDC Reasi bagged 3rd position. E-Certificates were given to all the winners of the competition.
Principal of the College, Dr Sangeeta Sudan quoted BKS Iyenger, a famous Yoga teacher, to say “Yoga as a light which once lit will never dim.”
Government College of Education Jammu organized its first ever National Webinar titled “Yoga as a Holistic Approach to Life”, which was attended by 160 participants across India and UAE. The webinar was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Sangita Nagari , Principal of the College, who stated that the holistic approach to health, well-being which is provided by the practice of Yoga is very vital especially during the time of pandemic.
Elaborating the importance of yoga, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu said that Yoga with its unique characteristics can alter the change in the mental and physical well being of the human beings.
Dr Laxminarayan Joshi, Dean Students Welfare Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar and Dr Nikita Garg, Celebrity Nutritionist, Lecturer Exercise Science and Nutition were the Resource Persons of the event. Dr Joshi talked about Surya Namasakar and various breathing techniques used to relax mind and body while as Dr Garg talked about the body composition and healthy lifestyle in detail.
Dr Zubair Kales, Dr Shubhra Jamwal and Dr Mandeep Singh organized the entire Webinar and moderators of the event were Dr Chetna Chaudhary and Dr Madhuri Sadgir.
Govt Degree College Akhnoor organized various online activities such as poster making, slogan writing, symposium and essay writing on “Yoga at Home and Yoga with family”. The programme was organized by NCC, NSS, EBSB and Sports Department under the supervision of Principal D. Namarta.
54 participants participated in different activities. Dr Namarta Principal of the College applauded the efforts of the organizing team namely Prof Kuldeep Kumar, Prof Pooja Devi, Prof Shivani Sharma, Dr Suresh Sharma and Prof Sunil Kumar.
Government Degree College Nowshera in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organized a “National level Collage Making Contest.”
The event was organized by Nodal Officer, RRC, Prof Pooja Devi, under the supervision of Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal of the College.
90 participants including students from 25 colleges and universities, teachers, Army and Air Force personnel as well as ex-servicemen demonstrated various “Yoga Asanas” during the event.
The participants were awarded with e-certificates of participation. The result of the contest shall be declared on 21st of June in which top three participants will be awarded with “Certificate of Excellence”.
Meanwhile, a quiz competition on Yoga and Sports was also organised. Iftar Ahmed of Govt PG College, Rajouri bagged 1st position while Sakal Sharma, Sonia Choudhary and Amandeep Kour of GDC Nowshera shared 2nd position and Sandeep Kour of GDC Nowshera bagged 3rd position.
Govt. Degree College Dudu Basant Garh organized an online inter-college essay competition on “Yoga-the key to wellness”.
First position was secured by Ashmi Angral of GDC Paloura, second position was bagged by Muzamil Arif of GDC Bhaderwah, while third position was clinched by Surjeet Kumar of GDC Dudu Basant Garh.
Govt. Degree College Jindrah conducted online national level essay writing competition on various themes related to Yoga under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Raj Shree Dhar, Principal of the College.
About 72 participants from Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tripura, Gujarat and J&K participated.
Vinay Pawar of LNIPE Gwalior bagged 1st position, Diksha Rani of GDC Jindrah clinched 2nd position and 3rd position was shared by Krishnan Chandra Yadav of Advance College of Education Naramau Kanpur and Sunita Jaiswal of ANDNNM College Harsh Nagar Kanpur.
Govt Degree College Billawar today organised inter-collegiate competition including poster making, slogan writing and video recording on the eve of International Yoga Day.
The event was adjudged by Prof Rakesh Sharma, Dr Arun Sharma, Prof Anil Kumar Verma and Dr Mohd Maqeem. Students of GDC Billawar were guided by Prof Yash Paul, Prof Rajni, and Ravi Kumar Physical Director of the College.
In video recording competition of Yoga Assans: Divgon Angotra of GDC Marh, Akriti Sharma of GDC Billawar and Umang Thusoo of GCW Parade clinched 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes respectively.
Shuvam Mankotia and Suhani Kalotra of GDC Billawar secured 1st and 2nd positions respectively whereas 3rd position was shared by Komal Bharti (GCET Jammu) and Tanisha Sharma (GCW Kathua) in slogan writing competition.
Romani Panoch of GDC Billawar got first prize, the second prize was shared by Arpit Gupta of GDC Marh, Simran of GCW Parade and the 3rd position was shared by Baviya Mahajan of GCW Kathua and Neetali Verma of GDC Billawar in poster making competition.
In ongoing seven day workshop on “Yoga and Wellness”, Govt Degree College Kalakote today invited an eminent speaker, Mukesh Kumar, Physical Director GDC Ramnagar to address morning and evening sessions.
Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua organised a virtual Yoga session in which Ms Anuja, Master of Arts (Naturopathy and Yogic Science) was the Yoga Instructor for the session.
Students performed various asans including Surya Namaskar, Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom during the session. There were two virtual sessions organised for the students wherein students attempted 108 Surya Namaskar.
To celebrate the ‘World Music Day’ & ‘International Yoga Day’ Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) presented musical concert ‘Rangila Duggar’ here at Janipur.
The programme was inaugurated by V.K Magotra, Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity and Dr. Tara Singh Charak, Former Deputy Director, Health Department.
The folk songs and skits specially produced on the theme were presented and music was assisted by Raju Bajgal, Music Instructor BLSKS.
In the beginning a pledge to make Yoga an integral part of our daily life was also taken by BLSKS artists and associates.
Earlier in his welcome speech of M.L Dogra, Chairman BLSKS highlighted the importance of the World Music Day.
The singers, musician, actors and students who performed in the musical play were Rajni Gupta, Raju Bajgal, Kuldeep Raj, K.K Joshi, Anmol, Tilak Raj and others.
At last of the programe Master Deepak Kumar presented vote of thanks.
