Wrestler Benia lifts 22nd Annual Dera Kesari title

Dignitaries preseting ‘Gurj’ to wrestler Benia at district Reasi on Saturday.

JAMMU, Apr 13: Wrestler Benia of J&K Police crushed Gur Lal of Amritsar in a neck to neck bout and lifted 22nd Annual Dera Kesari title, being organised by Dera Baba Banda Bahadur Parbandhak Committee, Baba Banda Bahadur Sikh Samardi in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, District Reasi.
On the occasion, SDPO Reasi Jagdev Singh Salathia was the chief guest who distributed cash prizes of Rs 5,000 and traditional silver Gurj and Patta to winner and Rs 3000 to runner-up in presence of Shiv Kumar Sharma, president, J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Mela officer and Tehsildar Katra Sher Singh and VP Maker.
In other bouts, Jakker of Sarare beat Kaka of R.S Pura, Roshan Lal of Muthi thrashed Vicky of Amritsar, Billu of Pathankot trounced Farooq of Sarare, Kalu of Bishnah outplayed Arjun of Amritsar, Mohd Akram of Jammu thrashed Sukha of Amritsar, Parvez of Mallerkotla beat Asaf of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu, Dil Mohd of Domana routed Rohit of Amritsar, Balwan Singh of Mohare thrashed Munish of Amritsar, Nihar Ahmed of Doda crushed Billu of Kot Bhawal. Bout between Karan of Amritsar and Kulbir Singh ended in a draw.
The matches were officiated by Baba Jatinder Paul Singh Sodhi, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Malik Ram Lubhaya Paruthi, Chairman, Sant Kumar Junja, President, VP Maker, Sanjay Kumar, Mohan Singh, retd Captain Lehar Singh, Mohd Fareed, Vijay Singh, Haji Kasam Din and Murli Dhar.
