SRINAGAR, July 5: Employees Joint Action Committee, Srinagar under the leadership of its president Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam has decided to change the protest program of the EJAC from July 6 to July 14.
Fayaz while talking to media-persons said that EJAC has changed the July 6 program to next Tuesday on July 14 due to security reasons on the opening of offices of Civil Secretariat.
He said that the peaceful protest to be held on July 6 in front of Civil Secretariat Srinagar has been postponed to next Tuesday because of the concerns of the authorities regarding the security issues on the eve of Durbar Move. He said that the concerned authorities contacted the EJAC leadership regarding the July 6, program and were asked to postpone the program due to the security reasons.
The concerned authorities also assured the EJAC leadership that they will be given full permission for the next date as it is the fundamental right of the employees. In this regard, an emergency meeting of EJAC leadership was held which was followed by press conference, in which it was unanimously decided that EJAC will respect the concerns of the authorities and will now hold the peaceful protest on next Tuesday in front of the Civil Secretariat.
The plight of the daily wagers and all type of temporary workers who have been working tirelessly in various departments of J&K for more than 25 years on a meagre salary with which they are not even able to make their two ends meet was also highlighted.
It was also stated that the regularization of daily wagers is not a new agenda of the association but it has been there since decades. The previous Governments have time and again made agreements with the EJAC leadership regarding the regularization of daily wagers but till now no positive outcome was witnessed in this regard.
It was emphasized on the government to initiate some concrete steps for the regularization of daily wagers and all types of other temporary workers.
