Chhattisgarh trounce Maharashtra women in tournament opener

MUMBAI, Apr 14
Hosts Maharashtra went down tamely to formidable Chhattisgarh women 60-71 in the opening game of the 28th All India Ramu Memorial Basketball tournament at the Indian Gymkhana here today.
M Sangeeta of Chhattisgarh played a stellar role, scoring a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds to help her team ahead of their rivals.
It was virtually a cake walk for the Chhattisgarh girls as Maharashtra, despite having the experience of Manisha Dange and Amruta Bhuskute, could never lift their game.
Chhattisgarh ran their rivals roughshod on the fast breaks. D Amjana scored 19 points for Chhattisgarh, N Pushpa got 20 points, 3 rebounds and two assists while K Aruna got 10 points.
For Maharashtra, Manisha was ploughing a lone furrow, scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The only other notable contribution came from Amruta Bhuskute who had 15 points and 3 rebounds. (PTI)
