SAMBA, July 6: Kargil war hero Girdeep Singh Soni was today remembered by the residents of village Palota in Ramgarh Sector where army presented guard of honour to the lone son of his parents who sacrificed his life for the defence of the country.
Soni fought bravely defending the boundaries of the country in the Kargil war during 1999 where he fell to the bullets of the enemy. His sacrifice has inspired many youth to stand for the country’s sovereignty and security, said former Minister and senior leader, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), Manjit Singh.
Singh was the chief guest in a function where the parents of the martyr Girdeep Singh Soni, his relatives, prominent citizens, army personnel, and villagers assembled at village Palota. The people garlanded the martyr’s statue of Sena Medal and remembered his supreme sacrifice for the country.
“The young village youth has set an example for others. He will be remembered for his martyrdom,” said Manjit Singh, remembering the youth as a source of courage and honour for Samba district.
The former Minister said that the boundaries of the country are protected because of brave soldiers as they stand guard at the borders with China and Pakistan.
He said that the Indian army being one of the most professional forces has always defended its territory and never attacked any neighbouring countries in history.
At the time when China has created tension with the additional deployment of troops, he said, the Indian Army soldiers and ITBP personnel have jointly stood like rock against them to defend the motherland India.
“We want to ask the Government that the nation stands with them at the moment of border tension with China. We have full faith in our defense force’s capabilities to defeat the evil designs of the enemy nations,” he added.
